1950s—1960s: Classic Country Music Took Hold In Central New York. Local Artists Like Tex Roe Shared Stages With Country Music Hall Of Fame Legends And Broadcasted On Major Radio Shows.
The 1970s & 1980s Honky-Tonk Era: Syracuse Birthed Its Own Renowned Country And Western-Swing Bands, Most Notably The Mac Brothers Band And The Moss Back Mule Band. The Moss Back Mule Band Even Flew To Texas In 1978 To Record With Country Star Mickey Gilley.
Syracuse’s Country Music History Is Rooted In The Working-Class And Diverse Immigrant String Bands Of Upstate New York. The City Evolved From A Tour Stop For Legends Like Hank Williams Sr. (Who Played The Syracuse Civic Theater) To A Hub For Regional Honky-Tonk Acts And Massive Modern Amphitheater Shows
